Until a couple of decades ago, the heading ‘Demolition’ meant just what it said, with projects being secured after receiving fairly basic specifications with little or no mention of environmental impact, contamination, health, safety and welfare etc.
Nowadays, a demolition package can demand an array of disciplines to safely achieve the client or stakeholder’s goals starting with pre-contract consultations to fully understand the clients requirements, in terms of local environment, environmental impact, sustainability, budget and programme, through to the production of fully detailed risk assessments and method statements which take into account all the elements that need to be considered prior to, during and after the demolition phase and ending with final site ‘sign off’ on completion of the works.
